Due to his interest in so many instruments, Taylor was introduced to the mellophone in middle school and began participating in a summer band program, Sun City Marching Band. This led to his early participation in the Pueblo County Hornet Marching Band as an 8th grader and led to 3 state championships in 5 years. The marching arts ignited an interest inside him and became an integral part of his life driving many of the educational and professional decisions that brought him to participate in, teach and design for various world class ensembles around the USA and Europe.

At the age of 15 he was accepted into the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps and became mellophone section leader in just his second year. Taylor spent 4 years in the ensemble and won the Individual and Ensemble gold medal in 2007. Later, he became a member of the The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps from 2008-2009 where he was named Rookie of the Year.

Meanwhile, his educational career began at Loveland High School as a visual technician; where he would later become the visual caption head helping lead the program to a Colorado 4A State Championship in 2010. From 2009-2011 he led the visual and movement caption for the Blue Knights Independent World Percussion Ensemble (Fan Favorite 2011 - Physical Graffiti) and also taught as a visual instructor for the brass and percussion at The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps (2010-2012). All this experience would lead to his work as a drill designer.
